I like to imagine stories then create related object for them. This is a craft project made by using Autodesk Maya 2013. The craft's name is "Bugy". "Bugy" flies in the space to explore the unknown world.
"Bugy" is a half-organic half-machine scout ship from the space bug origin. I was fascinated by the geometrical symmetrical features in the bug world. For example: the beauty of the nest order of shells or the hornet's nest comes form their mathematical perfect. The skeleton, shape, and texture of "Bugy" were all inspired by the insect world.
"Bugy" is constructed in NURBS surface. Use hull to stretch the length of the NURBS sphere into a bean-like stander shape. Control vertex helps to create the curvy structure on the surface of the body. Three pairs of the out-strech wings is modeled from a single shape. Duplicate special helps to follow the mathematic order as it repeated. Most of s the shapes of different parts are in a similarly look to maintain the uniform of style. Importing of the texture file and assign materials (transparent, blinn)to give the biological and mechanical features to "Bugy". As space picture imported to MentalRay IBL as the background, the story is better told. I use 4 lights includes spot lights, and area light to create the light from the galaxies in the space. Adjust the lights and render angles using 2 cameras in MentalRay. And... go on, Bugy!
