Figure 2:
Figure 3:
I like creating different
story and characters by imaging on the model’s pose. These are series of life figure
drawing with stories done under 3 minutes. The material is black marker and was drawn on
newsprint paper.
Observing the original pose and finding
out the interesting curve from it is my first step. The curve of the back
in figure 1 is interesting to me. Pulling it back further is the decision I made for
exaggerating the pose. Creating
character and story base on the pose is the second step for creating
my drawing. For example, in figure 1, the model is holding a stick originally. Exaggerating
the curve line while keeping the figure in consistent is the following. Like in figure 2:
The figure is banding more compare to the original position but still maintaining it’s
volume. After complete the figure, I put down the facial expression, custom, and
environment to complete my scenes as the finish. For example: Smiling face, swimming
short, and pool helps to tell the story of the character in figure 3.
The use of open and closed spaces helps
me to show the volume of the body in my figures. Moreover, in Figure
3, the combining of the curve and rigged line exaggerate the body and also shows the
negative space. They create more movement in the figure. Moreover, foreshortening of the
pool in figure 3 presents a sense of perspective. Hand-eye coordinate is also an
important for me to draw the pose. After
find out the interesting banding in figure 2, I draw
from my memories and put my image of the character in the figure. In Figure 1, Walt
Stanchfield inspired me with the un-continued line style. The style helps me to free my
thoughts while exaggerating the pose and set down the pose quicker. I will ask myself
to create more stories and different characters for each pose.
